Hi Guys,

Planning on hiding Speakers behind a Acoustical Transparent Fabric, I wanted to cover the whole wall with Anchorage however i noticed the online GOM test Results Showed the Anchorage does not perform well as the FR701. The Question is will Anchorage work with hiding surround speakers or will i need to use the FR701.

I prefer to keep to a single piece of fabric.

Paradigm millenia speakers.

What gauge bare wire, can fit in wire spring connectors? Will pin connectors fit? Thinking of using 4 of them for atmos. Anyone else use them, for atmos?

How to clean LCD Screen on Projector?

Before I used Digital Galaxy DG-757, everything goes well, except for the cleaning of the LCD screen, very complex, too many tools and too much time to spend.

Just know, come across a projector on Amazon, TRONFY TP90. Have anyone get that before? In picture, it says it's very convenient to clean up its LCD and dust nest, Anyone any ideas?

Using Bose Acoustimass 6 with Speaker Selector

$

I've recently been gifted two Bose Acoustimass 6 speaker systems and want to be able to deliver audio to two zones using one receiver. This wouldn't have been my ideal choice given how the Acoustimass forces you to feed the speakers directly through the subwoofer / "acoustimass module".

One speaker system is brand new and the other is used and missing its subwoofer.

What I have:
- 10 satellite speakers
- 1 subwoofer / "acoustimass module"

Would it be possible to set up a speaker selector to distribute audio between the subwoofer and the speakers?

Plan is to use:
4 speakers for zone 1
4 speakers for zone 2
1 center speaker and subwoofer shared between both zones
8 zone speaker selector w/ impedence protection
*1 remaining speaker won't be used

However I'm not sure if this will interfere with Bose's proprietary setup.

Only one zone will be used at a time, never both simultaneously

I know this setup sounds ridiculous, but it's the best I could do with without having to invest in buying new equipment.

Thanks

Best BD release of Hero (Jet Li)?

$

Does anyone have any information on what is the best release from around the world of Jet Li's 2002 film Hero? The U.S. and U.K. Blu-ray's only have the English dub in DTS-HD MA, while the original Mandarin is left with a lossy Dolby 5.1 track. Having no luck finding much information on any Asian releases of the film with English subtitles. I know the Japanese disc is supposed to be good, but has no English subtitles. Any information would be great. Thanks.

P.S. - I'm region free, so that's not an issue at all.

Arrival & Arrival UHD - Valentine's Day 2017

Arrival is one of my new favourite movies, and I just learned it's scheduled for release Feb. 14, 2017. Happy Valentine's Day!

Both Blu-ray and Blu-ray UHD versions are available for pre-order now.

However, my understanding is the 4K disc is an upscaled 2K release, originally shot at 2.8K with visual effects done in 2K. Mind you, the UHD version will have a regular Blu-ray in the box, so you can have both in the same package.

I was all set to pre-order the UHD version, but then realized the the Canadian UHD version is $10 more than the Blu-ray. Given that my current setup is all 1080p (including a brand new Sony VPL-HW45ES 1080p projector), I figure I'll probably just get the regular Blu-ray and save ~30% of the cost.

My guess is this movie will not have a Dolby Atmos track regardless of the video format, so if true, that won't be a consideration anyway. (My 1080p setup is is 5.1.2 Atmos.) Plus, there's nothing stopping a regular Blu-ray from having Dolby Atmos, except annoying movie studios to refuse to put Atmos on regular Blu-ray for artificial market segmentation.

BTW, it's interesting about the timing of this, considering it's going to be nominated for a bunch of Oscars. I figure they'll just put on the packaging "Nominated for 6 Academy Awards!" or whatever and then update it to include any wins. It's already got a couple of Critics Choice awards, being Best Sci-Fi/Horror movie and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Using headphones and TV audio simultaneously

Hi,

My mother is hard of hearing and basically can't hear the TV in her current setup (internal TV speakers only). She can only really enjoy audio (music and TV) with headphones. Trouble is, if she plugs her headphones into the TV, the TV audio is muted so my Dad can't enjoy the TV.

I'm hoping to fix this for Christmas but I can't find any solutions. Essentially I'm looking for the cheapest way to let my mum listen to the TV through headphones whilst my Dad can enjoy the sound out loud. Am happy to get an Amp or sound bar if that will help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Speaker setup on Yamaha 1060

I've recently upgraded from an RX-V1700 to an RX-A1060. (yesterday) I have been running a 7.1 setup with Paradigm Cinema 90s up front, ADPs surround (just in front of listening position), and Cinema 70s rear. All speakers are on the walls about 8 ft. high. I have no desire to play with speaker positioning right now, and no plans to add or upgrade speakers anytime soon. Should I continue to run a 7.1 setup and live with TrueHD and DTS MA, or would it be beneficial to run the ADPs in their current location as overhead presence and the rear surrounds as surrounds, and take advantage of Atmos and DTS-X? I have it setup as 5.1.2 and it sounds good. Just wondering if it would be better as 7.1 with speaker positioning as it is.

Epson 5030UB Off Axis Projection Question

$

Excuse the newbie question. I have a Epson 5030UB I am trying to project onto a 110" screen. I fired it up and I can only get about 80% of the screen filled. I called Epson and they told me I need a minimum of 10' 7" from the front of the projector to the screen, and I am about 12" short of that. The issue is I can't really move the projector back any further, with it directly in front of the screen, without going through the roof of my house - - which I'd prefer not to do . I do have an opportunity to move the projector off-center from the screen about 5-6 feet if I move it into a dormer window area (and this would give me the distance to the screen I need). The question I have is can the image be corrected with lens shift or keystone adjustment shooting from an angle like this? THANKS!

Projector Benq HT1075 dust blobs in dark scenes

$

Hi,

I registered to this site today. So please let me know, if i am posting at wrong place or doing anything wrong.

I have a question for projector.
Projector: Benq HT1075 (DLP)
Story: After smooth use of 3200 hours (in 2 years), the lamp red light started coming up and projector use to go to off. Before making mind that the bulb is really gone, I dared to make sure by googling and opening up the unit thou i am not expert in elec/mech things. i removed the lamp hosing first and then unscrewed/opened up the case . I dusted of the dust by brush and hair drier :-(on fans and hair dryer blowed air in entire unit. I reassembled the unit (and that was not easy, i have press some place hard to get proper assembly) and to my surprise the projector red light issue is gone and projector is working fine. I tested with lot of use without red light reappearing.

However in the process i left lot of dust somewhere I don’t know (hence this post). The dust are clearly visible on screen if i fade (mess up) the focus. If i fix the focus/zoom, day/bright scenes have no problem however i get circular blobs in the very dark scenes.

Pictures attached: I googled but i didn’t get what i was looking for. The google helped me in opening up the unit, but why did they failed to mention to be extra careful for dust in lamp.

What I am looking for: the tips for cleaning and removing dust from either my model or similar model like W1070. I read the terms (DMD, mirror, DLP chip, "behind the lamp", "inside the lamp"), but I don’t know where they are. Can anyone be king enough to give to step by step with picture if possible. I already cleaned lens from outside with glasses cleaner.

Thanks

Need fabric help

$

I could use some assistance in determining what fabrics I can utilize for my theater build. My main issue right now is the star ceiling. It is 74" wide by 120" long, and I'd like to keep the entire span seamless. I will be using 3/4" MDF with cross bracing and 1" aluminum angle bars to prevent sagging. I'm not hiding any speakers, so I don't have to worry about acoustics, I just need the fiber cables to be able to poke through it. I'm hoping some of you have suggestions to lead me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Upgrading my Phase Tech PC-80s

$

I thought this might be the place to post this query even though it is not necessary DIY.

I have a LCR set of Phase Tech PC-80 speakers I bought new over 20 years ago. They are low serial number speakers and have served me well. Dialog is getting a bit muddy ( at least to me). I plan to have them reconed in the future. A local company has said they can fabricate the flat planar driver cones these speakers use. The drivers are also available from MSE (not cheap). The outboard units use one 6.5 inch planar woofer and one soft dome tweeter, The center unit uses two 5.5 inch planar units and one soft dome tweeter. I am assuming no issues with crossovers at this point.

I can repair or replace these drivers of course. The question I have is there a reasonable upgrade for these speakers ( different drivers) or should I stick with a simple refurbishment of what I have. I am showing the center unit as it is the worse for wear (note the tweeter foam difusser is crumbling). Similar degradation of the woofers on the outboard units although the foam difussers surrounding the tweeter(s) is fine.

Thanks;

William Garrison

Polk monitor 70's but cs2 is too big. HELP!!!

$

I have 2 Polk monitor 70's and a cs2 center channel, but the cs2 is too tall to fit in my entertainment system.

I would like suggestions on a center channel that could work with my monitor 70's.

I understand that the cs2 is the "best" choice to pair with my monitor 70's. I cannot mount my tv higher, and my tv is curved so top mounted shelves don't work (oled65c6p). My wife would divorce me if I changed out her modern art bull**** entertainment center. I have been through all the "make it work" possibilities.

The only thing I would like help with is possible alternatives.

Pretty much my only physical requirement is that the center channel cannot be more than 6 inches tall.

I appreciate any help.

On a job where the client bought a home with some existing equipment. Unfortunately the main amor for the house was removed before we arrived on site but def with sever single gang keypads in the walls that only have speaker wire going into them. I'm hoping someone on here knows what they are because there are no significant markings on them anywhere when i pulled them out. Thanks!
