Hi, all.
I know the title sounds ridiculous but hear me out.
I just bought the HW-N950 last night and set it up. I was immediately unimpressed as my first test was playing Spotify through the Bluetooth connection from my phone. It did not sound like a $1,700 piece of equipment. I then added a Sonos Connect via the digital input and had the same song playing on my Play 5 and the N950. I would mute one and let the other play to compare the difference and the Play 5 was leaps and bounds ahead. The sound was more complete and not "tinny" at all like the N950.
I then found the adjustments that can be made and arbitrarily adjusted what I thought would improve and the voice quality improved a bit but the bass was non-existent. I remember reading about someone who had bass issues and thought I had a defective unit as well. It wasn't until I tried a Dolby test on YouTube that I experienced the full sound that these speakers are capable of. I was impressed but still disappointed.
My main use-case is not watching Dolby or Atmos or DTS anything. My use-case is casual TV watching during the day (mainly news), baseball games, Formula 1, some YouTube/Netflix, and a lot of music during the day. I have Sonos Play 1s throughout the house and a Play 5 in the living room (that this would replace along with a Sonos Connect to tie back into the Sonos system).
Am I doing something wrong? Am I using the wrong equipment for music? I really hope so because if not, its sad that a $500 Play 5 can outperform a $1,700 7.1.4 system.
Help me change my mind before I return this thing.
Thanks in advance!
