Help me choose a DAC

$

Can someone please suggest me a decent good quality DAC? I been online searching but still cannot make up my mind.

I like JAZZ and R&B Vocal. Need USB Input.

Considering the following

Schiit GUNGNIR - $849
Marantz HD-DAC1 - $899
TEAC UD-501 - $699
Oppo HA1 - $1199

Which one would you choose and why? or they are just the same in sound quality? There are like at least 1000 DAC in the market to choose from $100 to $10000. Are there any significantly different in different pricing DAC?

Infinity p363/p163 - receiver setup

Whats up guys!
My list of equipment are: infinity p363 as my LR and p163 as my center connected to rx v475 receiver. I really enjoy this set up coming from a sony soundbar and this is my first dive to receivers/speakers so i have no clue if i have this set up correctly. After running the ypao it set all speakers to large and crossover to 40 and subwoofer to none. I've tried setting the center to small but made the volume low and I felt like im missing details. For now I have them all set up to large and crossed over at 60.
Do I have it set up right or any suggestions? Thanks.

2015 HTPC Build Advice

Hi Guys,

So it is time to say goodbye to my Popcorn Hour C300 and therefore I am thinking of building a HTPC?

Purpose of this box is just to play movies (BDRemux's, BD-ISO's, Mkv's, 3D BD-ISO's, M2TS....) basically what my C300 did and more.

Also needs to be future proof (If there is such thing) in order to be able to handle 4K or x265.

Currently I don have a 4K TV, but as I said future proof. My Current setup is Samsung 55H8000 Curved TV with Onkyo Home Theater System.

So in addition to the Video Playback the HTPC must be able to handle Audio Passthrough for DTS-HD, TrueHD and so on.

What is your guys opinion and recommendation with respect to the components I am thinking of?

Motherboard - Z97I GAMING AC
CPU - Intel Core i5 4690S
CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-L9I Low-Profile Quiet CPU Cooler
RAM - Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 1866MHz DDR3
SSD - Samsung 850 Pro 128GB 2.5-Inch SATA III
CASE - Silverstone ML07B Tek Mini-ITX DTX Computer Case

Is it worth the while to wait for 5th gen Intel Core i5's which are only dual core if I am not mistaken or the 6th gen Skylake chips which should be quad core?

This will be my first HTPC build and I would like your expertise.

Many Thanks And Regards,

Tomas

Netgear Arlo home video security system.

Hello.

Does anyone know of good wireless (no cabling!) networked home security camera systems that doesn't require subscriptions and phoning home/another company (e.g., Netgear Arlo's cloud servers) and want to record locally at a big home, hidden, but still accessible to outside on the Internet privately. I just want to add to my client's current network setups and have good security.

Thank you in advance. :)

Connecting pre-installed Ethernet ports together

Hi guys,

Just joined this forum but I've been visiting it for a while, searching for a solution to my problem but I decided to finally ask for help :)

So, I want to connect the entire house via Ethernet. Each room has an Ethernet port on the wall and I connected one of the router's Ethernet port to the wall socket. My problem seems to be in the wall panel, where all the cables go.

Looking at the wiring can you help me discover what's the problem?

Here's some images to help:

Area A = Living Room (where the router is)
Area B = Kitchen (not connected)
Area C = room 1 (not connected)
Area D = Room 2 (not connected)

Thanks for any reply :)

For sale is my used Oppo BDP-105D. I decided that the BDP-103D would be sufficient for my needs and allows me to allocate more to my 2-channel setup.

It is a NORTH AMERICA region player.

There is one small knick on the top left edge.

Included: BDP-105D plus original box and accessories

$1150 shipped to CONUS. Will split PayPal fees.

NOTE: I am the second owner. The unit was originally purchased directly from Oppo in March 2014 and I DO have the original purchase paperwork from the original owner for warranty as needed.

Double Stud Wall - Any need for whisper clips?

$

I have built a second decoupled stud wall. Would I get improvement from adding clips and hat channel? Would it be enough to justify the cost? I plan on 2 sheets of 5/8" sheet rock and Green Glue already. Since the walls are already decoupled, I am not sure it would be worth the extra expense. I will be using clips on the ceiling and the hallway as I don't have the room for double studs there.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Derek

wtb: < $2K receiver to replace my H/K AVR745... advise please!

My Harman Kardon AVR-745 I bought in 2007 crapped the bed and the processor is dead. H/K doesn't have a service center so I sent it to one of their designated outsourced service centers. Up to Oregon for $50 shipping and a $100 diagnosis later.... H/K doesn't offer a replacement processor and no refurbished units available I've been told. Just great. Flagship model that doesn't get supported down the line shows the current state of affairs at H/K.

My first high end unit I purchased in 1993 happened to be a Denon. 13 years of great service from it. So I'm leaning in that direction again.

The Denon AVR-x5200 sounds like the ticket.... but not being HDCP 2.2 compliant makes me want to wait until the fall for the new offerings.

what else could be recommended? I'll never buy another H/K unit again. Open to other options.

I have the following:

Klipsch KG 5.2 tower speakers (2) used up front
Klipsch RC-62 center channel
Klipsch 12" 300w sub
Insignia 6" 120 side speakers
Fisher super old school rear tower speakers 10" woofer/dual 4" tweeters (rear)
Panasonic TC-P50ST60 50" HDTV

I am open to tossing any non-Klipsch speakers and/or adding more :)

Home Theatre Design Where to Place Door

$

Hello everyone. My family are building a new house which will have a dedicated home theatre room. We are still unsure what will be the best place to put the door though. There are a few place that the door can go. Back corner of back wall, middle of back wall and back corner of side wall. There are a few things to consider for us about all options but in where would you guys recommend we place the door and why? Giving a second option if the first one can't be done would be good too.

Thanks

Do I need to upgrade amp?

$

Hello everyone. A few years ago we bought a home theatre 7.2 system to put in our living room along with the Yamaha RX V871 amp. We couldn't really fit the rear surround in our room at the time so we installed them as front presence/front highs. Now we are building a new house with a dedicated home theatre room which has space to install rear surrounds. Thing is I quite like the effect that the front presence speakers have given and would like to keep them, so we are going to buy 2 more speakers and run a 9.2 system. My current amp however only allows me to use front presence or surround back, not both, however I noticed that the amp has 7.1 preouts with surround back. My question is, would running 9.2 work if I used the internal amp for front presence and connected an external amp to the preouts to power the surround back or would the amp still be limited to 7.2? Basically do I need to upgrade to a 9.2 capable amp or would this trick allow me to get away with 9.2 on my current amp?

Thanks

Home Theater Advice on adding Amp

Not an AV expert by any means but I am building a dedicated small home theater (11x14) with a 110" projection screen and a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos setup will all in wall speakers and two in wall subs. The receiver I have is a Pioneer SC-87 but I have the option to add a Integra 70.1. My question is will I get a big boost in performance by adding the Integra and am I creating a possible problem down the line?

The room will be mostly used for watching TV/movies mostly streaming, 30% PS4 gaming and some Blurays. If I am missing anything please let me know.

Onkyo TX-NR636 Samsung TV triple sound bar

$

Hello all,

I am quite a newbie regarding home cinema and AV-receivers. i am trying to go around an issue that is quite annoying.

my setup:
AVR Onkyo TX-NR636
TV Samsung UE46F6500
Cable Box
PC HDMI

I plugged everything in, start up the system for the first time yesterday. Everything goes well (image and sound are passed through on all outputs)

The only issue I have is when changind volume up/down it shows 2 Anynet+ bars with different volumes (like one is 35 other is 42) plus it shows the Onkyo bar on the background.

Is there any way to fix this? is there any different procedure by the order of plugging the HDMI cables with receiver on/off? (I plugged everything before start)

Would this issue be solved by running Optical sound cable and turning off the ARC functionality? is there a quality loss ? and would it still work for the cable/pc sound outputs?

Sorry for the amount of doubts and thank you in advance for your inputs

Tall Sub Riser for Large Subwoofers

Hi,

I recently discovered the Sub Risers (read today:) as an advent of wanting to raise the subs in my apartment. Without going into too much detail I'd like to raise the subwoofer cabinets I have 16 inches off the ground to improve the bass response, de-couple from the floor/walls, and have the bass hit in the chest area while I am DJing a private party in my space. I have 4 dual 18" Subs. In the photo attached you can see them sitting vertically with line array tops sitting above. They will be sitting horizontal for performance. My questions is what materials/design do you recommend for lifting the subs?

From reading several posts online I've gotten the idea to use some MDF and carpet. Also thinking maybe I should incorporate some soft foam exercise mats or sanding sponges to help with decoupling. I'm pretty set on raising the subs 16 inches so not quite sure what the best approach to doing that is. 2x4's making table legs? Anyway, I'm open to suggestions. The subs measure 24" x 44" so I'm think 2 pieces of MDF that are 2'x4' should do the trick.

Erik

Didn't see one so thought I'd start it :)

Recently bought a pair of CV XLS-215 for my HT. These just blew the socks off my previous Front LR that were amazing for their size/cost (Cambridge Works Tower II). Audio flows effortlessly from these speakers and low-to-high, movie to music, these speakers simply shine in my 25'x15' home theater room. Couldn't be happier with the purchase :)
