Assistance needed for simultaneous audio playback for multiple devices

I'm in need of some assistance on coming up with a solution for simultaneous audio playback. I currently have 3 devices that stream to one set of 5.1 speakers, I want to upgrade to 7.1. My question is how do I get my gaming console (using optical audio or hdmi), set-top box receiver(using optical audio or hdmi), and pc (using 7.1 mini-jacks) all to support simultaneous audio?

My current setup is I use my pc as a mixer, this is accomplished by having my pc listen to line-ins from my monitors that are doing hdmi pass-through audio to 3.5 mm jacks. My pc then streams the audio to my speakers.

I presented this question to others and so far the answer I've gotten was get soundbars for my gaming console and set-top box. If I take this route only my pc would be running the 7.1 setup I plan to get, so before I go this route I wanted some other ideas from the pros.

another Samsung soundbar issue, wont turn on with tv

Hi everyone, I've got a Philips TV that supports HDMI ARC and CEC for sure, v1.4 HDMI cable and a Samsung hw-h450 sound bar which supports ARC too.

Now, I have enabled easylink autostart on HDMI 1 port which is the ARC compatible port, as well as anynet+ on the Soundbar.

Sound outputs fine, as well as volume control can be done with just the tv remote; it even turns off with the tv. However, it wont turn on with the tv. Does anyone know why? I'm really hoping I can retire the soundbar remote altogether.

FS: 3 - Paradigm SA-LCR 3 v.2 - In-Wall + Backer Boxes

These are the latest version available from Paradigm. 3 identical speakers (LCR) with rotatable tweeter so you can install the center horizontally to match with vertical L and R. They come with 3 Paradigm backbones (BX-LCR 3).

Everything is in perfect condition although the grills will need repainting as the original paint was sanded off in preparation for repainting to match the room. Unfortunately, we are going in a different design direction requiring me to do an all ceiling setup.

Shipping will be in six separate boxes - total weight about 115 lbs. Local pickup in the Chicago area is preferred but everything is packaged for shipping - with all shipping costs to be paid by buyer.

New, this is a $5322 package. I'd like $2500 + shipping.

Hi all,

I'm researching potential applications of wireless sensing technology from a lab at MIT. We're considering home security for the core product, moving into home automation over time.

If you have a few spare minutes, I'd greatly appreciate if you filled out a market research survey for us. You'll be entered to win a $100 Amazon gift card.

How does the Sharp Elite compare to plasma?

A guy I casually know is selling a vacation property and he's going this weekend to clear out some things. He told me he has a Sharp Elite there with very low hours on it and would be willing to bring it back with him if I really wanted it.

I've heard really good things about those sets, including that they're the pinnicle of LCD development but I've never seen one in person. Are they plasma-ish in viewing quality, or do they still have the same LCD flaws just dressed up in a really nice package?

The guy indicated that he would take a grand for it, but he didn't know any details (including exact size, although he thought it was "the biggest one").

Any thoughts are appreciated. Are there any specific questions I should ask? A grand isn't the end of the world, but its not chump change considering I'm still paying off my f8500. Is that fact that the set sits off for most if the year an issue?

I figured I'd probably get more plasma centric advice posting here rather than in the LCD forum.

Can I still get good audio with this sub-optimal room design?

Hi guys - this thread started in the subwoofer thread but turned much broader, as I educated myself and realized there are a number of possible issues with the room design and layout that may impact the audio.

I'm trying to assess to what extent these issues may or may not be worth sacrificing room design and function for. For example, I can tell if making these changes will be the difference between a poor sounding room vs a great sounding room, or if its more like a very good sounding room vs a great sounding room.

I know audio theory purists will find any flaws with the design as I point out in the thread (as well as others you may find). However I just need to understand the practical difference this may make.

Discussion is here: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/113-su...l#post32064361 . Note that although this started with a specific concern about bass, I think it applies to the sound of the room overall so its even more of a concern than before. Would love your input. Thank you!!

Page Button in remote Epson Projector G6050W

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening,

We bought subject projector for work, I noticed there is a button named "Page" please see attached pic.

Assumed is used to move thru PowerPoint Presentation, but it is not working as there is no USB port in the projector (as the technician said)

In older Epson projector, Yes it is used for Presetation and it looks the same layout of our remote, but when we read the manual of our Projector is says "Move to the previous or next image file when projecting from a network"

Does that mean it will not do the PowerPoint slide? does it has to be images from network?

Please see attached 3 pics, appreciate your help

Projection system in TV room

$

After years of reading about it, I am thinking about installing a front projection system in my 12.5' x 12.5' TV room. The current system consists of a Panny P65VT60 TV, Oppo 103D, Anthem MRX 300, Outlaw 7125 and Martin Logan ElectroMotion speakers. The room is not ideal - skylight with light walls and ceilings. However, except on rare occasions, most of the viewing is going to be in late evenings when I can dim the overhead lights.

Seating distance is going to be 7' to 8'. Due to limited throw distance available, I will have to go for a short throw projector, probably a BenQ HT1085ST. I was planning to install a tensioned AT retractable 85"- 90" wide screen. Elite AcousticPro was the initial choice, however reading the negative reviews in Screen forum here convinced me to consider Seymour XD or UF. Question is, should I buy a screen that costs almost twice as much as the projector?

Content will be 50% streaming, 40% movies and 10% TV. I did give a thought to a scope CIH screen, but it would be too expensive an option with my budget, so I am gong to stick with 16:9 screen. Sometimes I wonder if I should even bother with a projection setup in a non-ideal room, but the thought is definitely enticing. Do you guys think it is worth the expense?

Speaker placement question?

I have a Definitive technology setup, have had this brand for like 15 years. Anyway to make a long story short I had large tower speakers in the surround position but my 2 year old son is pulling on the wires and almost killing himself making myself and my wife nervous. Anyway I bought Def Tech SM55 bookshelf speakers to replace the towers for surrounds, and I bought a really nice wall mount for them. I have never put speakers on wall mounts. My couch is directly up against the back wall and that is unfortunately the only place I can install them. The mounts swivel so i can point them at the listening position. My question is will I lose some sound quality with them on the back wall but pointed in at the listening position? I am a big believer in speaker placement, its an often overlooked part of HT setups. Also you install the surrounds about a foot above your listening position, is that correct? Thanks for any help or advice.

Another weird PS3 and Denon Problem

Hi,

I have a new Denon X4100W receiver. Monitor 1 HDMI Out connected to my old Panasonic Plasma TV and Zone 2 HDMI Out is connected to a Dell monitor. One HDMI input is PS3 Slim.

There is no display signal in Dell monitor for PS3 when only Dell monitor is powered on. However, if you power Panasonic TV on, Dell monitor gets the HDMI display from PS3??? Its so weird. Setting Deep Color off etc does not make any difference. The only way to make PS3 and Zone 2 HDMI output seems to power on Panasonic TV. Another point is, any HDMI input source must be selected for the Main Zone, that is, for example if Main Zone input is radio tuner, the Zone 2 HDMI out for PS3 does not work, even if Panasonic TV is on.

Its frustrating.

Denon AVR 1908 Question

hi guys.

im new to the forum and was looking for some advice or tips.

i have just bought a Denon AVR 1908 amp. its a superb amp. i was wondering if there was any way of "boosting" the volume level output for the analogue RCA inputs??

i have my CD player etc connected via digital opitcal and RCA, the volumes for these are fine i dont need to have it up very loud at all. however, i like to play music from my phone too. the only way i can do that through this amp is via RCA stereo to 3.5mm jack cable - which works, however the phone volume is up full yet i have to turn the volume of the amp up to almost 50% to get a decent volume output.

i have gone through all the settings and iv already fine tuned the amp. but this is puzzling me. on the back of the amp it has RCA connectors marked as "VCR iPOD" which is how i connected the phone. but all of the connections give the same output when the phone is connected but not with other equipment. could it just be a case of a poor quality cable perhaps??

its a shame theres no USB on it, would be simpler.

thanks in advance :)

Kitsch Sub-12HG vs BIC F12 vs BIC RTR-EV1200 vs BIC V1120

So as the subject indicates ... I'm shopping for an economical Sub to augment my Bose 401s (which reach down to about 30Hz, but there's some wavering from 50 to 90). I'm not looking for huge, thudding, thrumming bass. I want tight, accurate, clean low freqs. It will be installed in the ground floor of a townhome sitting on a concrete slab.

I've read several threads here and a few other forums, and found some compelling recommendations and anecdotal reports on the following, all in a similar price range on Amazon:

Klipsch Sub-12HG
BIC F12
BIC V1120

During shopping also found:

BIC RTR-EV1200

I've also noticed the Klipsch RW-12II, which is quite a bit more, but I saw some strong recommendations for an earlier RW-12 model, wondering if this is truly feet and thuds better than the others.

I saw a lot of recommendations for SVS (Lava?) and another brand, but frankly, I'm interested in something I can get on Amazon. I know, that's a silly limitation.

All feedback, suggestions, or war stories welcome. Thanks!

P.S. Polk's 505 model has a lot of fans, but not on these forums. A lot of posts indicate that as good as Polk's speakers are, their subs ... aren't.

Sitting closer with smaller screen vs sitting further from larger screen

$

Is sitting closer to a smaller screen really the same experience as sitting further from a larger screen? It seems like it would be the same, if the ratios were right. But then again, it may impact viewing angles. It could also impact things like not wanting to sit too closer to an AT screen so the texture or perf was not visible. It could also affect the sound field I suppose, because speakers would be in tighter to the main listening position, especially for height speakers in an Atmos type setup.

I'm designing a new room and been wondering about this. I'm planning to sit 14' from a 142" wide 2.35 scoped screen with masking. In some ways it would be beneficial to have a smaller screen, and sit closer. For instance I only have 7' 9" ceilings. Considering the 6-7" border of the masking system on each end and some room up top for mounting, this means the bottom of my screen will be just 24" off the floor. This doesn't leave such great positioning for the center channel, although I may get with an AT screen to resolve that issue. A smaller screen means it would fit better height-wise.

Another instance where smaller would benefit is the positioning of the MLP. I've learned that it is generally a pretty big no-no to sit in the middle of the length of the room due to acoustics. With a smaller screen I could perhaps move the MLP up by 2 or 3 feet, thereby getting me outside of the dead-center of the room. And of course a smaller screen means more options for projectors since it'll require less lumens.

All that said, I can't help but feel like since I have room for a wide screen that I should make it large and sit back. Is this a wrong way of looking at things?

Lastly, is there some formula I can use to approximate how close I'd need to sit to a smaller screen, and what size screen it would need to be, to create the same immersive experience as sitting 170" from a 142" wide screen? Clearly you'd have to sit at a closer viewing distance ratio to pull this off. So as an example, to recreate the same immersion and "feel" of the 142" wide 2.35 from 170", what size smaller screen could be used from what viewing distance?

Samsung HU9000

Any suggestions for the best starting point when calibrating a Samsung HU9000? By "calibrating" I mean doing it myself, not professionally, with an eye one and HCFR. I will definitely do greyscale to the best of my ability with 10pt white balance (assuming it is available). I will delve into colors too but am not great at that work.

I am assuming Movie with all funky auto diming turned off. How about color temp?
